Productivity1010 programme targets to assist 1,000 companies in the manufacturing sector begin their digital transition to improve productivity for long-term competitiveness.

THE Machinery and Equipment Productivity Nexus with the support of the Malaysia Productivity Corporation (MPC) has introduced a programme to help businesses embark on their digitisation journey.

MPC director general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman said that the Productivity1010 programme will provide businesses with self-diagnostic and prioritisation matrix tools.

“With the self-diagnostic tool, businesses can self-check their readiness for digitisation, ” said Abdul Latif at the launch of the programme.

Once the assessment is completed, the companies would then undergo 10 hours of business virtual mentoring by MPC.

The prioritisation matrix focuses on the Four Rs of the framework – reality check, return of investment calculation, review of KPIs, and reference of best global practices.

The matrix is to identify “high priority index dimensions for improvements to bring the most benefits through specifically-tailored proposals for these businesses, ” he said.

“We’re talking about leveraging technology and innovation to help businesses”, said MPC director general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman.“We’re talking about leveraging technology and innovation to help businesses”, said MPC director general Datuk Abdul Latif Abu Seman.

Abdul Latif said MPC has roped in certified mentors from the Malaysia Industrial 4.0 System Integrator Association (MISI 4.0) and the Malaysia Automation Technology Association (MATA) to be on the Productivity1010 programme.

“With our extended network through the Nexus, we aim to provide consultation for SMEs on the best course of action, ” he said.

He pointed out that the Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the need for businesses to digitise.

While SMEs may opt to employ conventional methods of operation now, digitisation is the future, he reminded.

“There are risks to conducting business the traditional way. Most companies know that digitisation is the way forward and can improve their productivity, but need help in getting started on the digital transformation journey, ” he added.

This is where Nexus comes in. Nexus has so far conducted nine series of webinars and virtual advisory clinics to assist industries by delivering solutions and facilitating sustainable change.

“For SMEs, we understand that they may not have the equipment or financial resources to start the process. But we implore them to work within their means.

“If they are a small business, they don’t need the latest computers or gadgets to begin their journey. They can start by reaching out to us and working with what they have, ” said Abdul Latif.

“Businesses can come to MPC and find the most effective solution for their digitisation journey”, said Machinery and Engineering Industries Federation vice-president Datuk Michael Kang.“Businesses can come to MPC and find the most effective solution for their digitisation journey”, said Machinery and Engineering Industries Federation vice-president Datuk Michael Kang.

Machinery and Engineering Industries Federation vice-president Datuk Michael Kang said the programme not only improves companies’ productivity, it also benefits the local workforce.

“By reducing the number of import hires, we can instead train local workers to take on these new digital jobs and help our local industries grow.

“Through digitisation, our local SMEs can work ‘borderless’ and even expand their businesses quicker, ” he said.
