Pharmaniaga surged 22.22%, or 50 sen to RM2.75, making it the top gainer on Bursa Malaysia. Duopharma, the third gainer on Bursa Malaysia, jumped 22.09%, 36 sen to RM1.99.
Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Khairy Jamaluddin announced that Duopharma and Pharmaniaga will be undertaking the fill and finish processes for the Covid-19 vaccine, once a vaccine is developed.
He said Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has agreed that Pharmaniaga and Duopharma factories will be used for the “fill and finish” process, as part of the government’s short-term plan to address Covid-19.
"We will be purchasing the vaccine overseas, either from China, the US or the UK, in bulk, and we will be doing the bottling process here," Khairy said.
He added that both companies have agreed to provide the fill and finish service.
Khairy also said once Malaysia completes the fill and finish process, it will assist other countries in packaging Covid-19 vaccines.
