KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh has been appointed chairman of the Federal Land Development Authority (Felda), taking over from Tan Sri Mohd Bakke Salleh.
Felda said in a statement on Sunday that Idris’ appointment takes effect from May 1.
Felda director general Datuk Dr Othman Omar said he was confident that with Idris’ experience and leadership, Felda's revival efforts will continue and be further expedited.
Mohd Bakke recently tendered his resignation as the chairman of Feld and chairman of Felda’s board of directors to take up his new appointment as the new chairman of Telekom Malaysia Bhd.
Idris is a Member of Parliament of Besut. He was the Minister of Higher Education from July 2015 to May 2018 as well as former Education Minister II (combined Education Minister & Higher Education) from May 16,2013.
He was the Menteri Besar of Terengganu (2004-2008), former chairman of Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and Deputy Minister of Entrepreneur (1995-1999). He is a member of Umno.
Idris graduated with a Bachelor of Social Sciences (First Class), from Universiti Sains Malaysia (1980) and an MBA from the University of New Haven, USA (1988).
He received his certifications in Arabic language from the University of Jordan (1993-1994) and in Advanced Management from Harvard University (2001) and INSEAD France (2008).
Othman said Felda expressed its gratitude and appreciation to Mohd Bakke for his leadership, guidance, and contribution during his tenure as chairman.
“Tan Sri was fully committed towards bringing a variety of reforms and recovery strategies, especially in carrying out transformation plans outlined in the Felda White Paper.
“His commitment is exemplary for the Felda community to continue to strive for excellence and sustainable growth. We wish him well in his new position, ” added Othman.
