CYBERJAYA: G3 Global Bhd, a leading player in the fields of artificial intelligence and Internet of things, has seen a continued climb in its share price on Wednesday following the announcement that it has now partnered Malaysia Automotive, Robotics and IoT Institute (MARii) to help businesses overcome Covid-19 challenges post-movement control order.
The collaboration between G3 Global and MARii is to ensure business continuity via a government system designed to monitor industry and business operations, called the MITI-Covid-19 Intelligent Monitoring System (CIMS).
Through this partnership, more than 70,000 businesses and factories under the International Trade and Industry Ministry will be able to resume operations by adhering to government conditions, which include adoption of thermal scanning and face recognition solutions as the first line of prevention and precaution measures at the workplace gates.
The instant results provided by G3’s thermal scanning and face recognition devices will give the workforce assurance that people allowed into the premises have been tested and found to be within the recommended body temperature range.
“Covid-19 has changed the world, and we have witnessed the importance of AI and IoT whereby we are now relying on these technologies to manage and mitigate the pandemic, ” said G3 group managing director Datuk Haji Khan Mohd Akram Khan.
“Hence, G3 is proud to play a part in supporting the Government and society in the fight against the virus by providing end-to-end solutions which are preventive, effective, customisable and can also be integrated with companies’ existing enterprise resource planning software.
“It is unfortunate that many businesses are deeply affected by the crisis, but the implementation of the SOPs will be a turning point for factories to operate again and G3 will play its part to ensure that our technologies and solutions will assist industries to cope with the situation.
“Besides AI and IoT, the group also focuses on Big Data which is another significant factor in the development of the right measures moving forward, ” he said.
Haji Khan added that G3 is in the midst of working with various strategic partners to roll out further programmes which will benefit the nation in mitigating the outbreak and adapting to changes through the integration of advanced technologies.
With G3’s SenseTime Nebula-ITMDT and the SenseTime Thunder-E Thermal Imaging Solutions, business users are able to safeguard detection and alarm of face without mask, face recognition alarm with mask, and suspected fever alarm linkage – thus providing crucial epidemic prevention information to the users.
Moreover, the solutions are easily deployable anywhere and anytime and Perodua and its entire value chain ecosystem will be the first to adopt this system under the initiatives driven by MARii.
The core technologies of these solutions were developed by G3’s strategic partner SenseTime, one of the world’s most valuable AI startups which leads the market in almost all vertical industries, including smart cities, smartphones, mobile Internet, online entertainment, automobile, finance, retail, education and real estate, among others.
SenseTime boasts more than 700 customers and partners in China and overseas, including world-renowned institutions and companies such as Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Qualcomm, NVIDIA, Honda, Alibaba, UnionPay, Xiaomi, OPPO, vivo and Weibo.
MARii chief executive officer Datuk Madani Sahari said its facial recognition and thermal screening smart technology is to assist businesses in complying with government SOP for resuming operations.
He said this technology is embedded within an IoT system to enable contactless monitoring of a company’s workforce.
The technology developed in close collaboration with G3 is an expansion of the capabilities of the CIMS, and features an integrated system that consists of face recognition, precision cameras, thermoscanners and an embedded solution that is flexible enough to integrate with the company’s existing enterprise resource planning software for monitoring employee attendance, payroll, production planning, etc.
“Post-MCO, we will have to implement new solutions to fulfil health monitoring requirements and SOPs within our businesses, and this will definitely add manpower, equipment and operating costs for companies, particularly those with a large number of employees, ” said Madani.
“Our technology allows for a system that minimises long-term costs for implementing additional procedures to combat Covid-19 at the workplace.
“As the technology is packed with smart features such as facial recognition and face mask detection, it has the capabilities to eliminate human error that comes with manual screening checkpoints, ” he added.
This new collaboration adds to G3 Global’s milestone. StarBiz reported that in April last year, G3 Global inked an agreement with China’s SenseTime Group Ltd and China Harbour Engineering Co Ltd to develop an AI park, with a total investment of US$1bil.
It is understood that that the AI park will be in the third phase of Technology Park Malaysia, which will have an estimated gross development value of RM20bil.
The park will serve as a platform for the development of AI solutions such as speech recognition, robotics and smart city technology. It is also planned to be a regional epicentre for data management and commercial ecosystem.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis, it is expected that the AI park project will be fast-tracked to attract foreign direct investment and become a regional hub for home-grown innovations and to develop future-ready talents.
Since the announcements on the establishment of the first AI park in Malaysia and the partnership with MARii, G3 shares closed at RM2.86 on Wednesday.
