Gradual recovery for manufacturing

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian manufacturing sector’s performance could remain weak for the next several months, even with the gradual ramp-up in business activities after the conditional movement control order (CMCO) began yesterday.

Following the sharp decline in the country’s purchasing managers’ index (PMI) for April 2020, which touched a record low, economists have cautioned that the improvement in the manufacturing sector depends on the success of the Covid-19 outbreak containment measures in Malaysia and across the world.
