Electricity demand to shrink in 2020


The anticipated sharp decline in electricity consumption is not entirely surprising considering close to 80% of Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB)’s sales in Peninsular Malaysia come from industrial and commercial customers.

PETALING JAYA: Electricity demand in Peninsular Malaysia is likely to fall into negative territory in 2020 due to the movement control order (MCO) - the second time in recent history if so.

The last time the industry saw such a sharp contraction was during the 2009 global financial crisis when demand for electricity shrunk 1.3%, Maybank IB research said.
