KUALA LUMPUR: MISC BHD said its shipping unit AET has secured long-term charter contracts awarded by Total SA to own and operate two very large crude carriers (VLCCs).

The new build LNG dual-fuel vessels, scheduled to be delivered to AET in the first quarter of 2022, are targeted for operations in international waters.

The charter contracts are expected to commence in 2022, MISC said in a statement today.

"As a group, we took early and bold decisions to invest in LNG dual-fuel vessels and I am pleased to see the industry responding so positively to our strategy," AET's chairman and president/Group CEO of MISC Yee Yang Chien said.

"I am delighted we have made this agreement with Total and I’d like to thank them for their confidence in AET,” he said.

The two newbuilds will be powered by LNG and will be amongst the most environmentally friendly VLCCs in the market.

These ships will be MISC's first LNG dual-fuel VLCCs.
