KUALA LUMPUR: The producer price index (PPI) for local production rose 0.9% year-on-year in February to 105.9, the National Statistics Department has revealed.

Chief statistician Datuk Sri Mohd Uzir Mahidin said the increase in the index was owing to growth in the agriculture, forestry and fishing, electricity and gas supply and manufacturing indices.

The index of mining and water supply declined 5.2% and 0.8% respectively.

“Out of 1,063 items covered in PPI, 42.4% items showed an increase in February 2020 as compared to February 2019.

"On the contrary, 49.1% items showed a decline while 8.5 per cent items were unchanged," said Mohd Uzir.

Compared to the previous month, the PPI local production fell 1.3% in February.

The decrease was owing to a drop in mining, agriculture, forestry and fishing and water supply.

The index of electricity and gas supply and manufacturing rose 0.3% and 0.1% respectively.
