Not all technology is glittering

The silver lining in the tech space remain s the plain old e-commerce firms, from Amazon to Alibaba to Shopee. Ride hailers such as Grab are also in a good place. But while demand is booming, they are struggling to fulfil orders. Logistics remains challenging with lockdowns taking place. The supply chain disruption is also a serious problem.

IT is obvious that in the new norm of social distancing, technology firms that enable us to do things remotely are having a field day.

But hang on. It’s not all of them. Those involved in travel related services are facing a nightmare. Platforms from Expedia to Booking.com and Hotels.com are now busy dealing with the collapse of travel and figuring out how to refund travellers wanting cancellations. And it is going to be some time before travel activity reaches pre-coronavirus levels.
