Global passenger traffic rose 4.2% in 2019 - IATA

KUALA LUMPUR: Global passenger traffic for the whole of 2019, measured in a revenue passenger kilometres (RPK), rose by 4.2 per cent year-on-year, according to the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

However, this was a slowdown compared to the 7.3 per cent annual growth recorded in 2018, making 2019 the first year that passengers’ demand fell below the long-term trend of around 5.5 per cent annual growth since the 2009 global financial crisis.
