KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia fell in early Thursday trade, mirroring the cautious key Asian markets, as investors worried about the new spread of the flu-like virus in China.
At 9.20am, the KLCI was down 3.51 points or 0.22% to 1,574.47. There were 133 gainers, 203 losers and 269 counters unchanged.
Asian shares and US stock futures edged lower as investors remained anxious about the spread of the coronavirus in China just as millions prepared to travel for the Lunar New Year, Reuters reported.
Deaths from China's new coronavirus rose to 17 on Wednesday, with more than 540 cases confirmed.
MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan fell 0.13%. Australian shares were down 0.75%, while Japan's Nikkei stock index slid 0.64%, Reuters reported.
At Bursa, Nestle fell 70 sen to RM144.80, Press Metal 25 sen to RM4.92, KL Kepong and QL Resources 16 sen each to RM24.14 and RM8.09 while Tenaga Nasional lost 12 sen to RM12.76.
KESM was the top gainer, up 28 sen to RM11.58 while Pentamaster gained 10 sen to RM5.39.
Icon Offshore continued its charge ahead, up 25.5 sen to 67 sen with 11.9 million shares done.
BAT and Maxis rose 10 sen each to RM12.14 and RM5.58.
