2020 – Start of a new decade, a new hope

In the era of the new decade and towards the government’s inspiration of achieving the Shared Prosperity Vision (SPV) 2030, the real work starts next year. The government needs not only to set the stage in motion but to implement the policies to ensure Malaysia does not fall behind the new Asian tigers, the likes of Vietnam and even Cambodia.

WHAT a year 2019 has been for not only Malaysia but the world over.

The headlines for the past 12 months have been dictated mostly to the US-China trade war, the potential US recession, yield inversions, US interest rates cuts, the Brexit mania and some geopolitical tension in both Asia and the Middle East.

On the local front, other than the 24/7 sustained political temperature, which is what most of us did not vote for, Malaysia too witnessed a slowing economy, disappointing performance as far as the KLCI was concerned while earnings remained in recession.

On top of that, we see frustration on the ground brewing due to unfulfilled promises of the government while promises that were never made continue to hog the limelight. We also got side-tracked by race-religious issues, which are causing us to lose focus in setting the right stage and direction and to implement the best of policies for all Malaysians.
