Sarawak imposes aluminium tax

The new export tax on aluminium products will hit Press Metal Aluminium Holdings Bhd, which is South-East Asia’s largest integrated aluminium producer with annual production capacity of 760,000 tonnes.(File pic shows the plant in Smuljadi, Sarawak.)

KUCHING: The Sarawak government will impose new state sales tax on the exports of aluminium products and revise the tariff for abstraction of raw water from Jan 1,2020.

This will be the second consecutive year for Sarawak to introduce new sales tax after it imposed a 5% tax on petroleum products from Jan 1,2019 as a new source of revenue under state budget 2019 to support state development agenda.
