Stronger-than-expected Malaysian export performance in July

PETALING JAYA: Malaysia entered the second half of 2019 with a stronger-than-expected export performance in July, as the country’s export growth rebounded by 1.7% year-on-year (y-o-y) following a disappointing performance a month earlier.

Trade surplus surged 75.6% to RM14.27bil and this was the 261st consecutive month of trade surplus since November 1997. Total trade was valued at RM161.65bil, a decline of 1.9%.
