Ta Ann unit gets forest management certification

SIBU: Ta Ann Group’s Raplex forest management unit (FMU) has been awarded the forest management certification under the Malaysia Timber Certification Scheme–Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.

The award was given on June 28. The certification is for a period of five years.

The Raplex forest management unit is located at Pila-Belaga region, covering an area of 63, 993 hectares.

The timber group said the award was its second after its Kapit FMU which obtained the same certification in June 2018. Its Kapit FMU has a forest area of 149, 756 hectares.

The Kapit FMU has also successfully passed its first year surveillance audit conducted by SIRIM QAS International Sdn Bhd in 2019.

Pasin FMU, which is another FMU under the group with an area of about 132, 000 hectares, is currently undergoing forest management certification with Stage II auditing scheduled for early 2020, it said.

The certification is projected to be obtained in 2020.

“By the end of 2020, all three active FMUs, with total areas of 345, 749 hectares, shall set to be fully certified with Sustainable Forest Management Certification in compliance with Sarawak state government policy, ” it said.
