Govt to call for more large-scale solar power tenders

KUALA LUMPUR: The government will announce more tenders for large-scale solar (LSS) power projects by end-2020, Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change Minister Yeo Bee Yin says.

“There will be some changes on how we will tender the LSS project. It will be more innovative and would hopefully  drive the cost even lower,” Yeo said on THursday during the "Evolution of ESG Investing" event organised by Maybank and Bursa Malaysia.

Earlier this year, the Pakatan Harapan government called for tenders worth RM2bil under the third round of the large-scale solar (LSS3) scheme to increase electricity generation from renewable energy.

Yeo noted LSS3 is likely to be commercialised in the next two to three years.

“ Around 719 companies have participated in the tender, and it will be a very fierce competition among companies,” she added.

The submission for proposals will close in mid-August.
