MGO for Media Prima seen unlikely

Speculation has also risen on whether Syed Mokhtar(pic) is mulling a mega-merger of media players in Malaysia, putting together several key national newspapers including the New Straits Times, Berita Harian and Utusan Melayu under one umbrella.

PETALING JAYA: CGS-CIMB Research says it is unlikely a mandatory general offer (MGO) will take place for Media Prima Bhd following news reports that tycoon Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Al-Bukhary is upping his stake in the media group.

According to stock exchange filings with Bursa Malaysia yesterday, Aurora Mulia Sdn Bhd, a vehicle related to billionaire Syed Mokhtar, has bought a 11.09% stake in Media Prima from Gabungan Kesturi Sdn Bhd.
