Renault’s 20-year marriage with Nissan may be in trouble

Renault, which owns 43.4% of Nissan, informed its Japanese affiliate in a letter signed by Chairman Jean-Dominique Senard that it planned to abstain in a shareholder vote on the plans, the Financial Times reported

TOKYO: Stung by the shock arrest of their leader, and now a failed deal to create one of the world’s biggest automakers, decades-long partners Renault SA and Nissan Motor Co may have finally reached boiling point in their relationship.

The implosion of Renault’s merger plans with Fiat Chrysler Automobiles NV has brought the French and Japanese automakers’ tensions out into the open, with Nissan’s reluctance to endorse the deal said to be partially responsible for its failure.
