Star Q1 pre-tax profit up from fourth quarter 2018

n a filing with Bursa Malaysia, SMG said it had posted a revenue of RM82.6mil and a net profit of RM3.6mil for the first quarter ended March 2019 with revenue and profit being affected by lower advertising revenue.

PETALING JAYA: Star Media Group Bhd (SMG) has posted a higher pre-tax profit for its first quarter of this year (1Q19) than the fourth quarter of last year (4Q18).

“If the mutual separation scheme (MSS)/Early Retirement Option (ERO) cost of RM15.8mil is excluded from 4Q18, then the profit before tax would be RM2.4mil, which is still lower than the 1Q19 profit before tax of RM5.7mil. Although the group recorded a lower revenue in 1Q19, the group’s profitability improved due to better cost management,” it said.
