UEM Edgenta: Extend automation incentives to other industries as well

KUALA LUMPUR: UEM Edgenta Bhd hopes the government will also extend the incentives that are provided for the manufacturing industry to encourage automation to other industries as well.

“There should be no difference because we spend money to automate and we save costs for the country because for us, a machine can replace 10 foreign workers,” it’s CEO Datuk Azmir Merican said at a press briefing today.

“When we cut off these additional manpower we also help the country in the long run to reduce foreign exchange flows out of the country and reduce foreign worker count,” he added.

He also said that the cost to import these machinery is expensive citing its new ‘hydraulic arm grass-mower.’
