Bursa starts week on weaker note, Tenaga under pressure


KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia fell in early Monday trade, weighed down by losses in Tenaga Nasional, Petronas Dagangan, MAHB and Petronas Dagangan.

At 9.21am, it was down 5.41 points or 0.32% to 1,694.35. Turnover was 387.15 million shares valued at RM233.39mil. There were 197 gainers, 230 losers and 235 counters unchanged.

Kenanga Investment Bank Research reckons Bursa is likely to continue its tepid trade over the week in the absence of fresh domestic catalyst coupled with uncertain global sentiment. 

“Key momentum indicators are also tapering off suggesting that the bull is losing its strength. Should there be negative developments from the trade talks, support levels can be identified at 1,650 (S1) and 1,630 (S2) further down,” it said in its market outlook.

Nestle fell the most, down 70 sen to RM148.70 and F&N 40 sen to RM35.

Among the plantations, Genting Plantation lost 20 sen to RM10.30 and PPB Group 18 sen to RM18.32.

HLFG lost 20 sen to RM19.36, Petronas Dagangan 18 sen to RM26.52 and MAHB 13 sen to RM7.99.

Hong Leong Bank and Tenaga fell 12 sen each to RM21.16 and RM12.96.

Petra Energy was the top gainer, up 16.5 sen to RM1.07 with 3.7 million shares done. RHB Bank gained 11 sen to RM5.80 while AirAsia recovered seven sen to RM2.81 and IWFCity was up seven sen also yo 67 sen.
