This by-pass is proposed with several interchanges i.e. at (1) Jalan Thean Teik, (2) Lebuhraya Thean Teik, (3) Jalan Bukit Gambir, (4) Jalan Sultan Azlan Shah and (5) Lebuhraya Tun Dr.Lim Chong Eu, which has a total length of 5.7km, according to Vizione's website.

KUALA LUMPUR: Vizione Holdings Bhd's JV has accepted a RM815mil contract from Consortium Zenith Construction Sdn Bhd to build a 5.7-km by-pass on Penang island.

Vizione said on Thursday its 50:50 JV together with Vertice Bhd, Buildmarque Construction Sdn Bhd, would undertake the construction of package two of the Penang mega infrastructure project.

The by-pass will be from Bandar Baru Ayer Itam connecting to Lebuhraya Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu – a coastal highway linking from the Second Penang Bridge to George Town.

The construction period shall be for 36 months.

“The contract sum of RM815mil was based on the total estimated costs for the contract work amounting RM707.06mil plus some margins for the contractors to allow for risks and uncertainties in carrying out the project.

“Buildmarque intends to finance via internally generated funds, bank borrowings and/or additional funds from its shareholders,” Vizione said.

To recap, China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and Consortium Zenith had inked a contract on Oct 6, 2013 and on Nov 18, 2013.

Consortium Zenith had appointed CRCC as the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for package two.

As for Buildmarque, which is the project manager, agrees to award the civil and structural construction to CRCC.

As for now, Vizione's unit, Wira Syukur (M) Sdn Bhd is negotiating with CRCC to be a sub-contractor for bulk of the construction.

Vizione managing director Datuk Ng Aun Hooi said: “We are glad that we are given the opportunity to work with CRCC on the by-pass works from Bandar Baru Ayer Itam connecting to Lebuhraya Tun Dr. Lim Chong Eu.

“We are confident that with our past experience from jobs undertaken previously, we will be able to contribute positively to the project.”
