Astro launches bundled broadband with content offering


KUALA LUMPUR:  Astro Malaysia Holdings Bhd raised the ante in the broadband space with its  bundled broadband with content offering, starting with its pilot project in Jasin, Melaka.

The offering will provide residents with internet connections as well as Astro’s best-in-class content, it said in a statement on Tuesday. 

The pay-TV operator said this was is part of its support of the Government’s National Fiberisation and Connectivity Plan (NFCP).

The CEO designate of Astro, Henry Tan said the bundled proposition will allow subscribers to enjoy their favourite shows on demand via set top boxes as well as through connected devices such as mobile phones and tablets. 

Jasin is the pilot project, targeting about 1,100 homes in an area where Astro has a strong 92% household penetration comprising Astro and NJOI customers.

Astro is offering 50 Mbps and 100 Mbps broadband services at a special price of RM 99 and RM 129 respectively from  Feb 1.

This fee will include Astro’s Family Pack content which has more than 40 channels, including Astro Ria, Astro Prima, Astro Arena, Astro Awani, Astro AEC, Astro Xiao Tai Yang, NatGeo WILD, and FOXlife, among others. 

The pilot project broadband bundle from Jan 8 to 31 will include:

* Free channel previews and complimentary broadband access for the month of January at current package rates for Astro customers who sign up. 

* An upgrade to Family Pack and complimentary broadband access in January for NJOI customers who sign up.
