TNB, IOI Corp weigh on KLCI


KUALA LUMPUR: The FBM KLCI closed in the red on Friday, dragged down by losses in Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB) and IOI Corp Bhd

At 5pm, the FBM KLCI ended 6.05 points lower to 1,669.78. There were 492 gainers, 349 losers and 333 counters traded unchanged on the Bursa Malaysia. Volume stood at 2.2 billion units, worth RM1.28bil.

In today’s session, 17 of the KLCI-component stocks were traded lower, 11 counters advanced while the remaining two closed unchanged. 

Laggards in the FBM KLCI component stocks were led by TNB, which dragged the index down by 3.018 points and IOI Corp, which pulled down the index by 1.223 points. 

TNB closed 30 sen lower to RM13.46 while IOI Corp declined 11 sen to RM4.35. Nestle shed RM2.20 to RM145.30, dragging the index down by 0.912 points. 

Leading the top gainers, Dutch Lady rose 28 sen to RM60.98, Petron Malaysia increased 27 sen to RM6.40 and Hengyuan accumulated 26 sen to RM4.85.

Fraser & Neave and Carlsberg ended the day among the top losers, declining 56 sen to RM33.32 and 28 sen to RM19.52 respectively.

Meanwhile, the ringgit was quoted at 4.1403, up 0.08% against the US dollar. 

Spot gold was down 0.22% to US$1,291.90 per ounce.

Brent crude was last traded at US$56.77 per barrel while US crude traded at US$47.83 per barrel.

Among the key regional markets:

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 2.26% to 19,561.96;

Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index is up 2.24% to 25,626.03;

CSI 300 rose 2.4% to 3,035.87;

Taiwan’s Taiex shed 1.16% to 9,382.51;

South Korea’s Kospi gained 0.83% to 2,010.25 and

Singapore’s Straits Times Index rose 1.54% to 3,059.23.
