IRB collects RM 10.1mil under voluntary declaration programme

The Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia's (IRB) newly-launched Monitoring Deliberate Tax Defaulters (MDTD) programme will track taxpayers identified as non-compliant.

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah’s Inland Revenue Board (IRB) has collected RM10.1 million in taxes from 156 taxpayers to-date under the Special Voluntary Declaration Programme (SVDP) which was launched in November last year.

“All taxpayers are requested to come to the IRB to voluntarily declare their taxes and we will accept it openly and without prejudice,” said its director, Datuk Hajam Lajah Alam.

He said this to reporters after a meeting with Chief Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal at the Sabah State Administrative Centre here today.

Hajam said the SVDP programme was offered to five taxpayer categories, including individuals, companies and organisations who have not registered with the IRB and those who have registered but have not submitted their income tax return forms, petroleum return forms or real property gains tax return forms.

“Additionally, the programme is also open to individual taxpayers, companies and organisations which have not disclosed their profits from disposal of assets,” he said.

The programme, which ends on June 30 this year, offers volunteer taxpayers low penalty rates of between 10 per cent and 15 per cent, after which the penalty rates will return to the original rates of between 80 per cent and 300 per cent, starting July 1.  - Bernama
