A dismal year for global markets

However, things might be looking up once again on the trade war front as some observers said there will likely be a trade deal struck between the US and China.

PETALING JAYA: Equity markets around the globe ended their worst year in a decade, with stocks in China experiencing the steepest loss as fears of trade wars take a toll on the world’s second largest economy.

From a level of 3,307.10 at the beginning of 2018, China’s benchmark index the Shanghai Composite ended last year down by nearly a quarter, or 24.6%, at 2,493.90 points.
