Syed Hamadah is new CEO of KWAP


KUALA LUMPUR: Syed Hamadah Othman, one of the leading practitioners in the pension and social security space in the country, has been appointed as chief executive of Kumpulan Wang Amanah Pencen (KWAP). 

According to KWAP’s website, prior to joining the pension fund, he was a director at Actuarial Partners Consulting Sdn Bhd. He assumed the post on Nov 1.

Syed Hamadah takes over from Wan Kamaruzaman Wan Ahmad, better known as Wan K, who left after having led the organisation that handles the pension obligations of the civil service for five years. He is known as a firm advocate of building a pension system that is sustainable. 

KWAP said Syed Hamadah, during his tenure at Actuarial Partners, led the pension business and specialised in consulting on issues including pension funding and accounting, mergers and acquisitions, pension scheme design, pension reform and training. 

He was also part of the consulting team on the review of pension, social security, and healthcare system in Malaysia. 

He has also worked on benefit reviews and designs of major pension schemes in Malaysia and abroad. 

Syed Hamadah is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries, United Kingdom and a Fellow of the Actuarial Society of Malaysia. He holds a BSc (Honours) in Actuarial Mathematics and Statistics from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.
