KUALA LUMPUR: Digi.Com Bhd's net profit rose 2% to RM392.54mil in the third quarter ended Sept 30, 2018 and rewarded shareholders with a dividend of five sen a share.
The telco announced on Wednesday the higher net profit compared with RM384.61mil a year ago was due to Increasing data consumption.
Digi said its revenue rose 1.9% to RM1.60bil from RM1.57bil a year ago. Earnings per share were 5.05 sen compared with 4.95 sen.
Its service revenue was RM1.47bil while its earmnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (Ebitda) was healthy at RM725mil or 46% margin.
“Increasing data consumption on its network remains the key contributor to its performance, fuelling growth across its postpaid and prepaid internet business as well as new digital businesses, and contributing to the company’s expanded 11.8 million subscriber base this quarter,” it said.
Digi's internet revenue climbed 18.4% on-year to RM817mil anchored by nine million internet subscriber base consuming an average 9.1GB of data each month.
Postpaid revenue grew 14.9% on-year to RM640mil over a stronger 2.7 million subscriber base.
Prepaid revenue slipped 9.1% on-year to RM835mil due to intense prepaid data price competition, and moderating demand for legacy voice and messaging services. Operating expenditure to service revenue 33.1% from continued focus on operational efficiencies.
Digi said data traffic grew 60% on-year, driving overall internet revenue up by 18.4% on-year and 1.5% on-quarter to RM817mil, “which now constitutes 55.4% of service revenue”.
Digi’s CEO Albern Murty said the Q3 was a busy quarter as “we focused on capturing data demand on our network while maintaining margins in the current market environment”.
“Our strategy is to focus on our postpaid, internet and digital capabilities to efficiently deliver high-quality services to customers while being financially disciplined.
“And we remain deeply committed to enable more Malaysians and businesses to benefit from relevant, affordable mobile and digital services across the country.”
For the nine months ended Sept 30, 2018, its net profit rose by 4.2% to RM1.162bil from RM1.116bil in the previous corresponding period. Revenue increased by 3.3% to RM4.852bil from RM4.696bil.
