Petronas stocks, Sime Plantation underpin KLCI’s early advance


KUALA LUMPUR: Fund buying of Petronas-linked stocks and Sime Darby underpinned the  FBM KLCI’s early advance on Wednesday.

At 9.15am, the KLCI was up 2.66 points or 0.15% to 1,776.81. Turnover was 195.22 million shares  valued at RM131.29mil. There were 153 gainers, 108 losers and 185 counters unchanged.

Over the past two days, foreign funds were net sellers on Bursa Malaysia at RM227mil on Monday and RM124.7mil on Tuesday.

At Bursa, HLFG was the top gainer, up 34 sen to RM19.54 while Hong Leong Bank added six sen to RM20.66.

Petronas Dagangan added 20 sen to RM26.28 and Petronas Gas gained six sen to RM18.36.

Sime Plantation rose eight sen to RM5.35 after a positive outlook from Citi Research which had the company as its top pick in the sector.

Nestle fell RM1.90 to RM144.50 with 500 shares done as analysts viewed the stock as overvalued compared to other consumer stocks.

KL Kepong lost 40 sen to RM24.52, MPI 34 sen to RM12.16, Vitrox seven sen to RM8.01 and UMW five sen lower at RM4.78.

Gamuda edged up five sen to RM2.43 after Monday’s selldown over concerns about its role in the MRT 2 project.
