This comes off a stellar month of sales in July, when total vehicle sales soared to 68,465 units, marking the second highest monthly total industry volume (TIV) achieved in the Malaysian automotive industry
According to the Malaysian Automotive Association, sales of passenger vehicles in August rose to 55,662, a 21% jump from a year earlier while commercial vehicles surged 71% from July 2017 to 9,779 units.
Production in August grew to 47,387 units from 43,688 in the comparative month with passenger vehicles rising 7.8% to 43.380 units and commercial vehicles jumping 15% to 4,007 units.
TIV was 423,730 units for the first eight months of 2018, 10% higher than in the previous corresponding period.
MAA said sales volume in September is expected to be lower than in August as much of the purchases would have been made before the end of the GST holiday period.
