HSS Engineers, AQRS tumble after ECRL cancelled


Genting slumped 15 sen to RM6.80 and erased 1.01 points while GentingM was down three sen to RM3.25 following the recent corporate news which were viewed as negative by investors.

KUALA LUMPUR: Shares of Gabungan AQRS and HSS Engineers and fell in afternoon trade on Tuesday after the government cancelled the East Coast Rail Link (ECRL) project.

At 2.52pm, AQRS was down 18 sen to RM1.91 with 4.65 million shares done while HSS tumbled 17 sen to 96 sen with 21 million shares done.

The FBM KLCI was up 5.23 points or 0.29% to 1,792.81. Turnover was 1.68 billion shares valued at RM1.30bil. There were 312 gainers, 499 losers and 365 counters unchanged.

The short selling of HSS was suspended at 2.35pm for the rest of the day after its share price fell more than 15 sen/ 15% from the reference price.

At 3.02, the short selling for AQRS after the share price also fell more than the 15 sen/ 15% limit.

Earlier, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the ECRL and the projects for the construction of two gas pipelines have been cancelled.

He said the projects could not go on due to Malaysia's financial woes.

However, details of the cancellation - including such matters as compensation - would have to be discussed later, he said.
