Azmin to meet Singapore transport minister again

KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali will be meeting with Singapore Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan tomorrow to resume talks on the KL-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR).

"We will have a follow-up meeting tomorrow afternoon in Putrajaya after the cabinet meeting," he told reporters after attending the launch of the Cardiac Vascular Sentral Kuala Lumpur specialist hospital here today.

Mohamed Azmin said his previous meeting with Khaw last Saturday was good and was very productive, adding that he had laid out Malaysia's position on the HSR.

"The minister (Khaw) has taken note of our position and he will table the matter to Singapore's cabinet. I was told the meeting will take place very soon," he added.

Last month, Malaysia said it would defer implementation of the HSR project linking Kuala Lumpur with Singapore, estimated to cost RM110 billion, due to the limited financial resources.

After leading the Pakatan Harapan to victory during the 14th General Election, Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has scrapped several costly infrastructure projects and placed others on review as he seeks to mend Malaysia's finances amid mounting government debt. - Bernama
