HLBank, Petronas stocks lift KLCI towards higher close


Bursa Malaysia joined the key Asian markets recovery as they notched gains of between 0.4% and 2.25% with Dialog, telcos, glove makers and Maybank underpinning the advance.

KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Leong Bank and Petronas-linked stocks helped lift the FBM KLCI into the positive territory in late minute trade on Monday.

At 5pm, the KLCI was up 1.12 points or 0.06% to 1,770.26. Turnover was 2.2 billion shares valued at RM2.03bil. The broader market was weaker with 535 losers, 332 gainers and 432 counters unchanged.

World stocks fell and the dollar steadied on Monday as a busy week of central bank meetings and company updates started. Japanese government bonds sold off before possible monetary policy tweaks, Reuters reported. In Asia, most key markets ended in the red except for Asean.

US light crude oil rose 75 cents to US$69.44 and Brent 19 cents higher at US$74.48.

At Bursa, Petronas Dagangan added 14 sen to RM27, Petronas Gas 12 sen higher at RM19.12 while Petronas Chemical one sen higher at RM8.85. Velesto and Sapura Energy edged up 0.5 sen each to 30.5 sen and 61 sen.

Amog the banks, Hong Leong Bank rose 24 sen to RM19, RHB Bank two sen to RM5.43 but HLFG fell 20 sen to RM17.80

As for consumer stocks, Dutch Lady jumped 92 sen to RM67.76, BAT 76 sen to RM34.56 but Heineken fell 22 sen to RM22.78.

Crude palm oil for third month delivery rose RM5 to RM2,191 per tonne. 

Among plantations, Far East was the top gainer of the day, up RM1.48 to RM11.98, Riverview gained 14 sen to RM3.80 but BLD Plantations lost 30 sen to RM7.

KL Kepong rose two sen to RM24.60 but PPB Group fell four sen to RM16.58.

Time dotCom rallied, ending 19 sen higher at RM8.40, after falling to an intra-day low of RM7.97. 

MY EG fell eight sen to RM1.14 and it was the most active with 82.43 million shares done.

As for semicon stocks, MPI fell 30 sen to RM11 and KESM 22 sen to RM17.10.

Profit taking saw Supermax sliding 13 sen to RM4.36.

As for property counters, MB World and E&O lost 11 sen each to RM1.69 and RM1.52.

The ringgit rose against the US dollar by 0.07% to 4.0595 but fell 0.22% against the pound sterling to 5.3342 and skidded 0.39% to the euro at 4.7451 and shed 003% to the Singapore dollar at 2.9834.
