KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia rose for the ninth day, putting on 7.72 points at midday, extending the previous session’s gains on follow-through interest.
The benchmark FBM KLCI rose 0.44%, or 7.72 points to 1,760.79 from Wednesday’s close of 1,753.07. The index opened 1.12 points stronger at 1,754.19 this morning.
Overall, gainers trounced decliners 503 to 321, with 388 counters unchanged. Turnover for the session stood at 1.808 billion shares valued at RM1.38bil.
KLCI-component stocks were mixed with 14 gainers, 11 decliners and five counters unchanged.
Movers in the KLCI component stocks included Maybank which pushed the index up by 4.2027. Maybank jumped rose 24 sen to RM9.84. Public Bank lifted the index higher by 1.3664, gaining 22 sen to RM23.92. Press Metal Aluminium had the biggest advance, increasing 3.86% to RM4.31.
On Bursa Malaysia, Malaysian Pacific Industries is the biggest gainer, rising 56 sen to RM11.34 while KESM rose 30 sen to RM17.
Among the actives, Revenue Group rose eight sen to 70.5 sen, MyEG gained four sen to RM1.05 sen and Pegasus Heights added 0.5 sen to 2.5 sen.
Meanwhile, the ringgit was unchanged at 4.0588 against the US dollar.
Elsewhere in the region, Japan’s Nikkei climbed 0.4% to 22,894.62 in midmorning trade for its fifth day of gains. China’s CSI300 index fell 0.1% to 3,427.47 points at the end of the morning session, while the Shanghai Composite Index lost 0.5% to 2,772.14 points.
The Hang Seng index climbed 0.1% to 28,132.71 points, while South Korea’s Kospi was up 0.12% at 2,292.85.
