KUALA LUMPUR: Prestariang Bhd will go ahead and implement the RM3.5 billion border protection project, known as the National Immigration Control System, says Group Executive Officer Dr Abu Hasan Ismail.
He said the definitive agreement was signed during the tenure of the previous government on July 15, 2017.
"As far as we are concerned, it is business as usual," he told reporters here today after meeting the Council of Eminent Persons who wanted an update on the project.
Abu Hasan added that for now, the company would continue to ensure that it delivered the contract on time and fulfil the obligations signed with the government.
Asked whether the Pakatan Harapan government would review or abolish the immigration control system project, Abu Hasan answered: "not that we know of."
The National Immigration Control System is a comprehensive and integrated technology platform to modernise the core applications and infrastructure of the immigration system with the objective of enhancing national border security.
The 15-year concession agreement, which was signed by Prestariang's subsidiary, Prestariang Skin Sdn Bhd in 2017, followed the approval-in-principle awarded by the Home Ministry in November 2016.
Once fully commissioned by 2021, the project would consist of a three-year building and deployment phase and a 12-year maintenance and technical operation phase, to replace the current immigration system.
All-in, 236 immigration control system project points would be installed. - Bernama
