KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit closed lower at 4.0020/0050 against the US dollar, the first time it has breached the 4.0 level in more than five months.
Dealers said this was in tandem with other emerging Asian currencies, as sentiment was dampened by the weakness of equity markets.
