LONDON: UK grocer J Sainsbury Plc is in advanced talks to combine with Walmart Inc’s Asda in a multi-billion pound deal that would reshape Britain’s brutally competitive supermarket business.

Sainsbury confirmed the discussions in response to a Bloomberg News report and said a further announcement would be made today. The supermarket chain ranks second in the UK, followed by Asda and behind Tesco Plc.
