MyHSR Corp signs MoU with 8 varsities on academy initiative

KUALA LUMPUR: MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd (MyHSR Corp) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with eight universities, kicking off its first MyHSR Academy aimed at developing talent to fill high-skilled jobs for the Kuala Lumpur -Singapore High Speed Rail (KL-SG HSR).

MyHSR Corp said the initiative was also geared towards enhancing the quality of local talent to position Malaysia as a key regional player in the HSR industry.

“The key focus areas of the MyHSR Academy include delivering professional training programmes and facilitating the delivery of academic, and technical and vocational education and training (TVET) courses with HSR/Rail elements in order to create a pipeline of end-to-end rail talent supply.

“The MoU signing is a move to formalise the academy’s holistic approach to embed rail-related modules in degree programmes in local universities and TVET institutions,” it said in a statement today.

Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Nur Ismal Mohamed Kamal said this initial phase of collaboration was crucial to ensure courses were in line with industry needs, warranting industry-ready graduates for the KL-SG HSR project and benefiting the rail industry as a whole.

“Our aspiration is to have HSR-ready graduates by 2019, in line with the estimated start of civil works and Assets Company appointment at the end of 2018,” he said.

Under this MoU, all parties will work together on the development of the academic and TVET programmes with the required HSR or rail modules, as well as programmes such as student internship and lecturer attachment programmes for the university collaboration, and apprenticeship and training-of-trainers for the TVET collaboration.

Additionally, the respective institutions would continuously review and improve their programmes to consistently meet the requirements and demand of the HSR industry. It would also promote the programmes and career path in the HSR industry to students and trainees and promote research in the field of HSR.

The eight universities that partnered with MyHSR Corp are Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Putra Malaysia, Universiti Tun Hussein Onn, Universiti Teknikal Malaysia Melaka, Universiti Malaysia Pahang, Universiti Malaysia Perlis, Universiti Teknologi Mara, and Universiti Kuala Lumpur.  The partnered TVET institutions include polytechnics and community colleges, Youth and Sports Ministry’s Youth and Sports Skills Training Institutes, and Mara. - Bernama
