UOB says inflows into ringgit should resume after elections

At 9 am(0100gmt), the local unit was traded at 4.1490/1520 against the greenback from Monday's close of 4.1480/1510.

KUALA LUMPUR: UOB Malaysia’s economist Julia Goh said that flows into the ringgit would likely resume after the impending general elections.

“We see minimal impact on the ringgit from the trade riff that’s going on now between the US and China,” she said at a press briefing earlier today.

“The ringgit could gain more as many investors that we have spoke to have held back their investments first now until the uncertainty from the elections are over,” she added.

Goh said she expected flows into the currency to resume if there are no new uncertainties introduced from after the general elections.
