WHILE many stayed away from their normal reading platter of magazines and newspapers during the holiday season, a friendly banter of sorts on a crucial issue besieging the banking sector took place between Bank Negara governor Tan Sri Muhammad Ibrahim and seasoned banker Datuk Seri Nazir Razak.
It all started with Nazir’s eye-opening article that was well read in the first week of February, diving into the future of banking. He described the current state of the industry as largely “asleep” and “conservative” because of the inherent nature of banking as a highly regulated industry.
