KUALA LUMPUR: Mah Sing Group Bhd has partnered with EduCity Iskandar Malaysia Sdn Bhd (Educity) to become the first external accommodation provider for students at its Meridin @ Medini Executive Suites in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

Mah Sing CEO Datuk Ho Han Sang said the integrated development, located 3.6 kilometres from Educity, would offer 183 fully furnished units to 370 students out of the total of 583 available units.

The Meridin Executive Suites, which is part of Mah Sing’s second phase development, will begin handing over vacant possession from this month onwards.

“We will provide first class facilities for students starting from RM850 monthly per student.

“They can choose a studio unit or a twin-sharing studio unit with built-ups ranging from 341 square feet (sq ft) to 603 sq ft,” he said in a press conference after the  Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony with Educity here, today.

On prospects for Mah Sing this year, he said the company would continue to focus on launching affordable properties, priced between RM400,000 and RM500,000 in Johor, Klang Valley and Penang.

Ho, however, declined to elaborate.

Meanwhile, Mah Sing Senior General Manager for Southern Region, Benjamin Ong said the Meridin @ Medini phase two development, which also comprises Meridin Walk Lifestyle Mall and two blocks of hotel, had achieved about 60 per cent take-up rate so far.

The hotels, Ramada Meridin and Ramada Encore Meridin, are scheduled for a soft launch in April this year.

The Meridin @ Medini first phase comprising 756 residential units was handed over in June 2017 and currently has some 80 per cent take-up rate.

“We see there is potential growth in terms of prices and yields as the development is located in the heart of Iskandar Puteri.

“Besides, the upcoming high speed rail here will further boost the economy in the vicinity,” said Ong.

Earlier, Educity Chairman, Datuk Khairil Anwar Ahmad said the collaboration with Mah Sing would cater to the needs of the students who were mainly foreigners.

“Currently, we have about 3,000 students at various institutions in Educity, whereby five per cent of them are foreigners including from the United States, China and France.

“This will provide options for those who may be choosy and want privacy,” said Khairil Anwar, who is also the President/CEO of Iskandar Investment Bhd.

Educity, a fully integrated education hub, is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Iskandar Investment. - Bernama
