KUALA LUMPUR: Engineering-based infrastructure and services conglomerate UEM Group Bhd has appointed Datuk Noorazman Abd Aziz as its new chairman effective from Jan 1.
In a press release on Tuesday, the company said Noorazman, who is its long-standing board member, will succeed Tan Sri Ahmad Tajuddin Ali following his retirement.
Noorazman has served UEM Group since November 2010 as a board member and was named the conglomerate’s deputy chairman on April 14 last year.
Currently, he serves Khazanah Nasional Bhd as an executive director for investments. Note that Khazanah Nasional is the parent company of UEM Group.
Prior to his stint in Khazanah Nasional, Noorazman has held a succession of international banking and finance positions including with Citigroup, Bank Islam Malaysia Bhd and Bursa Malaysia.
Ahmad Tajuddin congratulated his successor, describing him as the right person to chair the board of UEM Group moving forward.
“It gives me great pride to see UEM Group on a strong footing, continues to grow and has established strategic positions in key industries and markets.
“I am pleased that the board has appointed Noorazman to succeed me as chairman. He has a distinguished track record,” said Ahmad Tajuddin.
Meanwhile, Khazanah Nasional managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar expressed his appreciation to Ahmad Tajuddin, who has been the chairman and chief steward of UEM Group for more than 10 years.
“Tan Sri Taj, as we fondly call him, led and guided UEM Group through a very important period of its 51 years history, a period that coincided with the GLC Transformation Program and UEM Group’s own period of consolidation and renewed growth.
“As a 100% subsidiary of Khazanah, we are particularly thankful for all his contributions,” he said.
