Bioalpha seeks out international markets through Alibaba platform

Interview with William Hon, GMD of Bioalpha Holdings Bhd..

KUALA LUMPUR: Bioalpha Holdings Bhd, which has a gold supplier status on Alibaba’s business-to-business e-commerce platform, aims to increase awareness of its products and services globally, with the objective to further expand its export sales.

In a statement, Bioalpha said it was one of only two companies selected by Alibaba (based on the performance on the ecommerce platform) to participate in the Alibaba Client Testimonial Video, which was shown during the official launching of the Digital Free Trade Zone by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak and Alibaba founder and executive chairman Jack Ma last week.

The group said its health supplements products and services were now available on Alibaba’s platform.

“While China remains the largest market for Alibaba, the platform has buyers from more than 190 countries exchanging more than 100,000 messages daily. Furthermore, the Gold 2 Supplier status of Bioalpha provides assurance to buyers of the group’s credibility, which in turn will generate more leads for Bioalpha,” it said.

Managing director William Hon said being on Alibaba’s platform enhances its exposure to prospective buyers from around the world, allowing them to easily find, browse through and purchase its products and services.

“Despite being on the platform for just a few months, the response has been encouraging with interests coming from Asia, North America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East,” he said.

“We have been growing at a rapid rate, with our revenue registering a 5-year compounded annual growth rate of almost 30%. Still, we could not grow as fast as we would like to, especially in overseas market. It is not easy for us to penetrate into new foreign markets on our own as there are a lot of risks involved, not to mention the manpower and big advertising and promotion budget required.

“However, with Alibaba’s platform, it bridges this gap and make things much easier for companies like us. We are confident that this partnership will bring great benefits and fruition to us in the near future,” Hon said.
