GELANG PATAH: AirAsia Bhd will add two more Airbus A320 aircraft at Senai International Airport by the end of the year as part of a long term growth to develop Johor as an aviation hub.

Chief executive officer Aireen Omar said this would bring the number of A320 aircraft parked at the airport to six from four currently.

She said with more aircraft flying out of Johor Baru to domestic and international routes currently served by the airline, tourists and business travellers have an option to come to Johor Baru via air.

“We want to use Johor Baru’s position located between Kuala Lumpur and Singapore to attract air travellers from the region to use Senai Airport,” said Aireen.

She said this in a press conference at the sidelines of the Invest Iskandar Malaysia Symposium 2017 here yesterday.

Presently the airline flies from Johor Baru to Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kuala Terengganu, Langkawi, Sibu, Tawau, Kuching, Miri and Kota Kinabalu for domestic routes.

Besides the Kolkata route, which would be added on Nov 28, the budget carrier’s other international destinations out of Johor Baru include Guangzhou, Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh, Jakarta, Surabaya and Macau.
