KUALA LUMPUR: Volkswagen Passenger Car Malaysia (VPCM)'s newly set up automotive academy is aimed at creating technical manpower of global standards, capable of dealing with the challenges in the industry.

The academy, sited in Glenmarie, Shah Alam, covers over 14,117 sq ft and is fully equipped to conduct complete sales and after-sales (technical and non-technical) training, said VPCM managing director Erik Winter.

"The Volkswagen Passenger Academy is capable of accommodating up to 150 trainees who will undergo intensive training programmes covering Volkswagen's product and services conducted by 13 dedicated training staff," he said at the opening of the academy on Friday.

Among others, trainees would be taught soft and hard sales skills, technical simulations, diagnostics and functions.

The academy is equipped with four work bays and two technical service centre bays, wheel alignment machine, headlight adjusters, in-ground hoist, electronic board systems training, diagnostics systems and tools to provide trainees with a hands-on learning experience.

"There is also a designated room for parts system management where trainees will undergo practical and simulated training on how to manage, store and categorise parts and equipment," said Winter.
The academy also features a multipurpose hall and six classrooms.

Winter said the academy was a testament to VPCM's commitment to further enhance, grow and nurture local talent and dealers.

"This is one of the major steps VPCM is taking to uphold its philosophy to provide value-added, quality service to customers," he added.

Volkswagen sold 3,164 passenger cars from Jan-July 2017, with the Polo and Vento rated as its best selling models. - Bernama
