KLCI dips early Tuesday on MISC, IHH losses

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia started Tuesday on a cautious note as losses by MISC and IHH Healthcare weighed on the FBM KLCI despite the record high on Wall Street and firmer key Asian markets.

At 9.06am, the KLCI was down 1.83 points or 0.1% to 1,766.84. Turnover was 146.03 million shares valued at RM70.72mil. There were 137 gainers, 63 losers and 178 counters unchanged.

Asian shares climbed on Tuesday, following positive leads from Europe and the U.S. as oil's longest stretch of daily price gains in over five years lifted energy shares and investor rotation out of technology into financials continued, Reuters reported.

MSCI's broadest index of Asia-Pacific shares outside Japan added 0.2% while Japan's Nikkei jumped 0.5%, thanks to a weaker yen. Australian shares advanced 1.4%, while South Korea's KOSPI was little changed.

At Bursa Malaysia, among the KLCI stocks, PPB Group extended its decline, down eight sen to RM16.92, MISC fell seven sen to RM7.34 and IHH six sen lower at RM5.79.

Carlsberg was  the biggest decliner, down 20 sen to RM14.88, UMW and Ann Joo five sen lower at RM5.79 and RM3.09 while Scientex lost four sen to RM8.74 and AFG three  sen to RM3.88.

Yinson was the top gainer, up nine sen to RM3.69 after it announced it was selling its 26% stake in its 26% stake in its floating production, storage and offloading (FPSO) unit in Ghana to a Japanese consortium for between US$104mil and US$117mil. The move was to pave the way for strategic shareholders.

Petron added nine sen to RM7.65 and Hengyuan seven sen to RM5.53.

KPJ gained seven sen to RM4.28, KPower and Tong Herr six sen to RM3.66 while Globetronics added five sen to RM6.15.
