KUALA LUMPUR: MISC Bhd’s wholly-owned subsidiary AET Tanker Holdings Sdn Bhd (AET) has been awarded a charter contract worth at least US$200mil (RM858.2mil) from Norwegian oil and gas firm Statoil.
The energy shipping company told Bursa Malaysia that AET would, at its own cost, commission Samsung Heavy Industries to build two 125,000dwt DP shuttle tankers for delivery in 2019 before chartering it to Statoil.
It will operate the two specialist DP2 offshore loading shuttle tankers in oilfields on the Norwegian continental shelf of the North Sea, Norwegian Sea and the southern Barents Sea.
MISC said Statoil would decide on and announce the charter period by Dec 31 this year.
A five-year charter contract is valued at US$200mil (RM858.2mil) while a seven-year one will be worth US$275mil (RM1.2bil).
AET is the petroleum logistics unit of MISC and specialises in the global ocean transportation of petroleum.
Statoil is an international energy company with operations in more than 30 countries, present in several of the most important oil and gas provinces in the world.
MISC said the contract was not expected to have any material impact to the earnings per share, gearing and net assets per share of the MISC group for the financial year ending Dec 31, 2017.
