Maybank Islamic appoints Zainal Abidin chairman


KUALA LUMPUR: Maybank Islamic Bhd has appointed Zainal Abidin chairman of the board with effect from June 1, 2017. 

Zainal, 63, has been a Director of Maybank Islamic since Jan 28, 2010. Prior to that, he was a director of Malayan Banking Bhd from July 2009 until April 2014, where he also served as a member of the credit review committee, nomination and remuneration committee, and employees’ share scheme committee of the board. He was also previously chairman of Maybank Trustees Bhd.

His other current directorship within the Maybank Group is a director of Etiqa Takaful Bhd.

Zainal is a practicing corporate and commercial lawyer and established his firm, Zainal Abidin & Co in 1987, where he is the founder and senior partner.

 He also serves on the Boards of Sime Darby Bhd, Sime Darby Property Bhd, Sime Darby Industrial Holdings Sdn Bhd and Lam Soon (M) Bhd.
