SEPANG: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) is open to any potential partners to participate in its the wholly-owned Istanbul Sabiha Gokcen International Airport (ISG) and add value to the assets of the airport.

Managing director Datuk Badlisham Ghazali said the company had already added value to the airport by improving its passenger traffic from four million between seven and eight years ago to the current 29 milllion.

“When you have the fastest growing airport in Europe for the past six years, it would certainly draw a lot of attention.

“But there are still a lot to be done, and we welcome any potential partners to come and add value to the airport,” he told reporters after launching the Airport@Community programme in Sepang on Friday.

On reports on MAHB’s plan to sell its stake in ISG, Badlisham refused to reveal details.

However, he reiterated that the company would remain ISG’s major shareholder. He declined to give the time frame of the sale plan.

Asked whether TAV Havalimanlari Holding AS, the operator of Istanbul’s largest airport, the Ataturk International, was among those that had approached MAHB for the stake sale, Badlisham said, “We are friendly with a lot of people.”

Asked if MAHB had asked any banks to play advisory role in the deal, Badlisham said an announcement would be made at the right time.

“Right now, this is just a conjecture. Currently, we are happy to run the airport on our own,” he added.

Meanwhile, MAHB has allocated RM150,000 for its Airport@ Community programme to improve the standards of living of the local community.

Of the amount, RM30,000 will be spent to repair three houses in the Sepang district. - Bernama
