KKB seeks to partner with China firm to bid for Sarawak projects

Moody's outlook on the Korean banking system has been negative since May 2016.

KUALA LUMPUR: Steel fabrication and construction firm KKB Engineering Bhd plans to team up with State Nuclear Electric Power Planning Design & Research Institute Co Ltd (SNPDRI) to bid for projects in Sarawak.

The Kuching-based company told Bursa Malaysia that KKB and the subsidiary of China’s energy group State Power Investment Corp had inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) seeking to identify opportunities and pre-qualify for tenders for projects in the state.

KKB, which is 20.05% owned by Cahya Mata Sarawak Bhd, said SNPDRI’s main business was to provide planning, consultation, survey, design, technical research and development, EPC (engineering, procurement and construction) and technical support services to domestic and overseas entities in the domains of nuclear power, thermal power, power grid and new energy sources.

The MoU is valid for six months and unless mutually agreed, it may be extended for a further six months.

“The board is of the opinion that the above understanding, once formalised, will be in the best interest of the KKB group of companies,” KKB said.
